Getting to know Dénise Mbakop

Ms Dénise Mbakop is fondly referred to as the most optimistic youth as she believes in the empowerment of youth to achieve societal goals. She is a mental health advocate, girls’ rights activist and founder of “Give It A Meaning Again” abbreviated as GIMA a mental health organisation based in buea which offers Therapy/counselling services both on/offline by professional clinical counsellors, social workers and counsellors, it equally carries out online sensitization through seminars via the online forum called “GIMA’S ONLINE CENTER”, as well as raising awareness on mental health in the community.

She stands for youth empowerment especially women and young girls as she has served as a leader at the Her Voice Club under Denis Miki Foundation where she got the opportunity to engage with young girls and women, represent their voices in decision-making processes and stands as a voice to lead and serve her peers, guiding them to a better path in life given the many challenges young girls often face as they journey through life such as unplanned pregnancies.

She is equally a peer educator under the global fund in the sector of HIV/AIDs, and staff at Community Center for Integrated Development (CCID) where she stands as the programs officer for gender and human rights. Through CCID she has been able to empower more youths most especially young girls in reaching their full potential and believing in the power within them to build for themselves a future that best suits and represents them. Through building Resilient minds we build resilient communities and resilient communities provide productive grounds for youths to realise their full potential and achieve their dreams. I strongly believe youth productivity depends on the state of their mental health.
